Surface Energy Test Pens

Surface energy test pens are a quick and simple test of a material’s surface energy. Surface energy is the property of a surface arising from unbalanced molecular forces at or near the surface, compared to those in the bulk material, and is directly related to adhesion characteristics.

How surface energy test pens work – If a liquid is applied to the surface and its surface tension is higher than the surface energy of a material to which it is applied then the liquid tends to form droplets. If the surface tension of the liquid is lower than that of the surface to which it is applied it will spread out or “wet” the surface evenly.

SURFACE ENERGY TEST:

Surface Energy Test Pens are available with graduated levels of surface tension. The pen is applied to the surface under study and a simple visual observation of wettability is made. Using pens of increasing surface tension provides a rapid identification of the approximate level of the surface energy of the sample,

Surface energy is normally measured in energy units called dynes/cm or mN/m. Our Surface Energy Test Pens Set contains individual pens covering the range 34 mN/m to 46 mN/m in 2mN/m increments.
